As part of the multi million pound development, existing steel works were demolished to make way for the four new external engine bases, oil tanks and generator tanks. This also required the addition of a concrete retaining wall to stabilise the banking to the site and diversion of the existing drainage system all during some of the worst weather ever seen for engineering works. In addition to the external engines, internal works involving the demolition of existing steelwork and concrete structures took place with the removal of parts of the existing concrete floor to install reinforced cable trenches for a further two engines with a possible third engine to be installed in November.
