Water Borehole Prognosis

Drilling for water is a significant endeavour that requires careful consideration and analysis of the ground conditions before proceeding with drilling operations.

To ensure the success and cost-effectiveness of water borehole projects, we strongly recommend conducting a water borehole prognosis as part of the initial assessment process.

A water borehole prognosis provides essential information such as the presence of groundwater, ground conditions to be drilled, and the type of borehole liner required for sustained operation. This allows drilling contractors to accurately estimate costs and provide transparent pricing to clients, avoiding any surprises during the project.

For commercial projects, a water borehole prognosis is mandatory to determine the availability of groundwater and anticipated depths. Similarly, while not mandatory for domestic use, obtaining a water borehole prognosis is highly recommended to establish drilling requirements and agree on a fixed price for the works.

Under the Water Act 2003, domestic clients can extract up to 20,000 litres of water per day without drilling consents. However, commercial clients intending to extract more than this amount require both a water borehole survey and a Section 32 Consent from the local Environment Agency.

Upon completion of the borehole drilling, an abstraction license if using more than 20,000 litres per day is necessary for pumping water from the borehole. Teckna Group collaborates with leading water hydrologists to conduct water borehole prognoses, typically taking up to 10 days. Once the prognosis is received, we can provide a comprehensive quote for the installation of the water well, ancillary equipment, and any necessary pumping tests.

By undertaking thorough assessments and adhering to regulatory requirements, Teckna Group ensures the successful implementation of water borehole projects, delivering reliable and cost-effective solutions to our clients.
